We searched and searched for a place to stay for the Thanksgiving holiday until we found this idyllic home. It meant so much to us to be able to have an experience as close to home as possible since we were having our boys stay in the area while at school, instead of making the trek back to California. Mark and Sarah made all of our requests come true. The kitchen was well equipped for the big meal; there was plenty of firewood for the 4 days; the hot tub was awesome, even in the falling snow; the grounds around the home were perfect for light hikes and exploring. My greatest pleasure was being outside and hearing nothing but the sound of the breeze through the trees. In short, it was all that we hoped for.
“Yelp” may have brought you to our attention but your kind return call brought us up the hill. This “high pocket” of the world is a place so serene, one doesn’t want anyone else to know, yet we want to tell everyone we know about it! It is a great “surf spot” dilemma! For all the natural beauty, it is your warm personal touch that transformed it into a respite before our adventure across the ocean to Europe for a month (we were held-over for an extra week on this side while the Icelandic volcano settled down).

Running of the Derby Day! I found High Pocket by chance (web search) but will return by choice! As the Navajo’s say, beauty all around me. Sarah and Mark are extraordinary hosts, a guest quickly feels like family. Truly a place to restore body and spirit.

It is a beautiful breezy day here at High Pocket. This is our 9th year renting the entire house. The pear trees are filled with fruit, the goats have been sorted, Cecelia has returned from a ride on Dozer and boasts of her blister. Michaela has had yoga and fitness overlooking the glacial potholes in Shelburne Falls, and we’ve enjoyed dinner at Café Martin with farm-fresh corn. So the time has come to head home. We treasure our time with the McKusicks and are looking forward to seeing everyone and everything next year again.

On May 18 we made our first visit here. We had a great relaxing time. In fact, we were so relaxed that our daughter decided at 1:30 AM that it was a good time to be born! We headed to Cooley Dickinson hospital, and she showed up later that morning. Now that rascal, May, is 2 years old. Yesterday we returned with her and her two older brothers. We managed to get through the night without another birth! This place will always be special to us. It’s a great escape for grown ups, and the children loved spreading art and running freely outside…see you next time!
